CHRIS VIOLA/The Times-Union -- 5/17/07 -- Frances Szableuski (cq) consoles the driver (refused to give name) of a truck and trailer carrying junked cars that crashed on northbound lane of the Sydney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, Georgia, Thursday, May 17, 2007. Szableuski and two others were on their regular walk up the bridge for exercise when they saw the truck loose control and had to run away from it as it headed towards them before it hit the bridge wall. Ò If we didn't run it would have hit us, Ò said Birte Dunlap (cq) who was walking the bridge with Szableuski. Szableuski said because of the near miss they would never walk the bridge again. ÒItÕs over with, Ò according to Dunlap. The driver who was shaken up by the incident said he probably blew a tire and had to fight for control to put the truck into the wall as he tried to avoid the three pedestrians. The Sydney Lanier Bridge had itÕs northbound lanes closed for an hour as police and fire personnel cleared the crash scene. No injuries where reported in the accident.
